A year at our school

Event Highlights

Gunawirra Reverse Advent Christmas Drive

As the year draws to a close, the Aboriginal Education Committee is, once again, ending the year with the spirit of giving. The reverse advent calendar, in its third year at Forest Lodge Public School, raises resources and funds for Gunawirra, a community-led organisation that works closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families, children and communities. Donations support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mothers, children and communities.

What is a reverse advent calendar?

Most advent calendars are usually a series of doors or windows to open that reveal a little gift for each day. The reverse advent calendar turns this trend on its head. Instead of receiving a gift, those taking part in a reverse calendar donate an item each day. In the spirit of giving, this is a way to provide support, care and generosity to others in our community this Christmas.

Rainbow Family Breakfast

On the 28th of November, Rainbow Club hosted the Rainbow club family breakfast. Everyone in the club came together, along with their families, LGBTQIA+ people in our school community and allies. We ate a delicious breakfast with croissants, muffins, fruits, juices, teas, and our special surprise - FAIRY BREAD! It meant so, so much to all of our Rainbow club members, teachers and Rainbow families that so many people came to show their support and celebrate our wonderful, unique students. Rainbow club worked hard to make decorations in time for this breakfast, giving up their lunch times to help. Some decorations we had were paper chains, rainbow flags and big paper ornaments as well as rainbow tablecloths. Thank you to everyone who came and a very special thanks to Ms Steuart, Ms Rawlings and Mrs Warda for making this breakfast happen.

SunSmart Assembly

On Tuesday14th October, FLPS held a whole school assembly to launch our SunSmart Awareness program. Our student leaders proudly shared the five key steps to staying sun safe, offered helpful tips, and led the school in a fun song to encourage proper sunscreen application. They also announced incentives for students who follow the new school-wide expectations and lead by example.

It was fantastic to see so many students wearing new bucket and wide-brimmed hats, as well as SunSmart clothing. To support this effort, all classrooms now have spare hats available for any student who needs to borrow one during the day.

"We love our school for its supportive community and commitment to every student’s success. Our child feels safe and inspired every day.” — a parent of Forest Lodge Public School
