Racism impacts on student wellbeing, participation at school and learning outcomes. Racism and racist behaviour are not tolerated in NSW public schools.
The Anti-racism education policy implementation document provides schools with a guide for implementing anti-racism education. It describes racism in Australia and its effects in schools.
The policy requires that every school has an Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO) who plays an important role in assisting the principal to implement three major aspects of the policy:
- promoting anti-racism education
- supporting the handling of complaints
- monitoring incidents of racism.
